I was scrolling on social media and saw in a bookshop post, a copy of “The Boxcar Children: The Sleepy Hollow Mystery” by Gertrude Chandler Warner. I’ve read many Boxcar Children books, but I never saw this book before, so I knew I needed to grab a copy.
I picked up a copy and while written more recently, it still fits in with the other books. The Alden children visit Mrs. Vanderhoff and her two daughters, friends in Sleepy Hollow. Mrs. Vanderhoff runs the Haunted Hollow Gift Shop. Annika, her daughter, runs a not to scary, family friendly ghost walk in the woods while her mom.
The Alden children are excited to go on the ghost walk until Annika comes back upset. It seems someone is trying to destroy her tours by scaring off her tour guests with none other than an appearance of The Headless Horseman. The Alden children know someone must be behind this and that there really isn’t a Headless Horseman in the woods. Always ready for a challenge, the Alden children were determined to solve this mystery.
This book touches on The Legend while staying true to the Boxcar Children books. I definitely recommend this fun fall read for your young readers who love The Boxcar Children.
